This is another well known moment of dbz, where Gohan went super saiyan for the first time to defeat Cell to save the earth from being destroyed by evil. To defeat cell Gohan had to go super saiyan 2 to do the father son kamehameha to destroy cell. Cell also did some things to put pressure on Gohan for him to go super saiyan 2.
